Després del període de conreu a les parts més altes, es van començar a construir un canal per portar l'aigua del Barranco del Infierno a les parts baixes.
Des d'aquí l'aigua fluïa cap a la zona de l'actual entrada al Barranco del Infierno , al nord de la ciutat, prop del Molí Vell.
Un cop desviat el cabal d'aigua del riu Adeje, s'utilitzava per abastir la pròpia població , per regar els camps de canya de sucre, com a motor del molí de sucre i els molins d'aigua utilitzats per a la fabricació del gofio.
A Adeje hi havia quatre molins hidràulics : dos al carrer de los Molinos, un a la Concepción i un a Hoya Grande.
