Det Armenske Nationale Akademiske Teater for Opera og Ballet opkaldt efter Alexander Spendiaryan i Jerevan blev officielt åbnet den 20. januar 1933 med Alexander Spendiaryans opera "Almast". Operabygningen blev designet af den armenske arkitekt Alexander Tamanian. Den består af to koncertsale: Aram Khatchaturian koncertsal med 1.400 pladser og Alexander Spendiaryan Opera og Ballet Nationale Teater med 1.200 pladser.
Jordarbejdet til Opera-Teateret fandt sted den 28. november 1930 under fejring af 10-års jubilæet for Sovjetarmenia. Den 20. januar 1933 blev bygningen officielt åbnet. Kort efter teaterets grundlæggelse blev en ballettrup etableret. Svanesøen af Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky var den første balletoptræden i 1935.
