Rietz ligger i Oberinntal, cirka tredive km vest for Innsbruck, mellem Telfs og Imst. Kommunen strækker sig fra Inn til den 2884 m høje bjerg Rietzer Grieskogel i Stubaier Alperne. Den rummelige hovedlandsby ligger ved østgrænsen af Imst-distriktet. Nord for Inn, i grænseområdet med kommunen Mieming, ligger et beskyttet naturområde. Kommunen omfatter landsbykernerne Bichl, Buchen, Stille, Holzleiten, Dürre, Dorf, Unterdorf, Platzl, Wegscheide, Schlappach og Stagglhof.
