Kirken blev bygget fra 1015 som kirke for klosteret Sankt Jakob den Mindre af benediktinerne. Efter nedrivningen af Sankt Peters Kirke blev bygningen en af de syv Liege kapitelskirk’er. Det forblev det indtil 1801, da kapitlet blev opløst. Derefter blev kirken sognekirke. Kirken har stadig sin originale romanske narthex på vestsiden. Resten af kirken er et eksempel på sen gotik, med rigt dekorerede netvægge højt over skibet. Den liège renaissancekunstner og arkitekt Lambert Lombard designede kirkens klassiske renaissanceportal. Kirken har et stort antal glasmosaikvinduer fra første halvdel af det 16. århundrede i renæssance stil. De 17. århundredes helgenbilleder på hver side af skibet er lavet af malet lindetræ, udskåret af den liège-baserede billedhugger Jean Del Cour. I portalen over adgangsporten findes en 14. århundredes statue af Kristus, der velsigner Maria.
