En af de mest bemærkelsesværdige begivenheder i den belgiske popmusik er Festival Actuel i Amougies i oktober 1969. Denne fem dages festival kaldes ofte "Europæisk Woodstock" og bragte for første gang jazz og rock sammen på en unik måde. Verdensstjerner som Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Yes, Ten Years After og Captain Beefheart optrådte for omkring 100.000 festivaldeltagere. Stedet var usædvanligt: i en mark nær denne walisiske landsby Amougies, fordi festivalen blev forbudt i Frankrig. Dermed blev en lille landsby pludselig scenen for pophistorie med en global udstrækning
