Den gamle cisterciensiskeabbed var et uundgåeligt vartegn på grænsen mellem Schelle og Hemiksem. Under den franske revolution blev abbediet ødelagt, og bygningen har siden da været brugt til forskellige funktioner. Kommunen Hemiksem har indrettet sine kommunale tjenester der. Abbédets værelser huser Gilliot og Roelants flise-museet. Dette museum udstiller lokale udgravninger, interiører, keramiske paneler, forme og maskiner fra den gamle Gilliot-fabrik.
