I 'De Zwinduinen og -polderne' har der ligget mange minerede områder. I 1944 spredte besætterne landminer over hele flyvepladsen, hvilket gjorde den ubrugelig. Minefeltet fik kodeordet '114 Odette 712'. Der lå cirka 12.000 miner. De fleste minefelter blev stadig ryddet under 2. Verdenskrig af de allierede tropper, men et antal tilbageblevne miner forårsagede senere dødelige ulykker.
