In 'De Zwinduinen und -poldern' lagen viele Minenfelder. 1944 verbreiteten die Besatzer Landminen über den gesamten Flughafen, wodurch er unbrauchbar wurde. Das Minenfeld erhielt den Codenamen '114 Odette 712'. Es lagen etwa 12.000 Minen. Die meisten Minenfelder wurden noch während des Zweiten Weltkriegs von den alliierten Truppen geräumt, aber eine Anzahl verbliebener Minen verursachte später tödliche Unfälle.
