Amerikanere kommer for at besøge det, men de fleste flamlændinge har endnu ikke set det i Tongerlo: en smuk og unik replika af Det Sidste Måltid af Leonardo Da Vinci. Der er en stærk mistanke om, at mesteren selv har været med til at lave denne replika.
“Åh min Gud!” Jean-Pierre Isbouts, emeritusprofessor ved Fielding Graduate University i Santa Barbara, Californien, udbryder det, da han står ansigt til ansigt med den restaurerede replika af Det Sidste Måltid, efter fresken af Leonardo da Vinci i Milano.
”I dag er jeg meget glad for, at Belgien indser, at det besidder en skat. Fordi denne replika af den originale freske, som Da Vinci malede på væggen af klosteret Santa Maria delle Grazie i Milano, også delvist er af mesteren selv. Jeg har givet et lille bidrag, så verden ved: Belgien har en Leonardo!”
