Stenene her hører til Brababnt-massivet eller Brabants massivet. Dette er et masse af bjerglag, der blev aflejret for 500 millioner år siden i Kambrium. Dengang lå Vlaanderen stadig ved Sydpolen. Lige før Kambrium blev kysten af Gondwana oversvømmet af et hav, der steg, fordi en istid var slut. I dette hav blev der aflejret hele 9 km tykke lag af sand og ler, nedbrydningsprodukter fra Gondwana-superkontinentet, hvor vi lå ved kanten. Og de klipper kan du stadig finde her.
Man har endda været i stand til at fastslå, at der var vulkaner i nærheden, som var eroderet, for man har fundet rester i form af små korn i klipperne.
