Min første erindring om højt oktanindhold finder sted på den nu fjernede camping tæt på La Source og hovedtribunen i Francorchamps. Der kom jeg som lille snot unge for at campere sammen med min far under 24-timers løbet i Spa-Francorchamps. Med brølet fra de rasende racerbiler i baggrunden gik jeg i seng om aftenen, og den uendelig tidlige morgen den 1. august 1993 vågnede jeg. Ikke på grund af motorlarmen, men netop fordi der herskede en foruroligende stilhed over skovene i Francorchamps. Arrangørerne havde besluttet at standse løbet på grund af kong Boudewijns død. Et drama for enhver femårig bilfan, som jeg stadig ikke har glemt så mange år senere.
