I 1930'erne fremlagde informationsvidenskabsens gondolbygger, Paul Otlet, og toparkitekt Le Corbusier et forslag til en konkurrence om udviklingen af den liggende Antwerpens Venstre Bred. De lavede en Antwerpsk version af deres Cité Mondiale. Det ville indeholde meget højhusbyggeri og understrege den futuristiske internationale karakter af Antwerpen. I bedømmelseskomiteen sad tidens kendisser Henry Van de Velde og Victor Horta. De syntes ikke om det, og projektet havnede i skraldespanden.
