Det er omgivet af Vossem, Sterrebeek, Kortenberg / Leefdaal og Tervuren. Moorsel regnes administrativt som en delkommune af Tervuren; det har aldrig været en selvstændig kommune. Den oprindelige landsby bestod hovedsageligt af længebebyggelse langs Moorselstraat og Oudergemse vej. Senere er der bygget forskellige villakvarterer omkring bymidten. Stedet har både et landligt og forstadskarakter med landbrug, villaer og gamle huse. Ved midten er der et stort skovområde, Moorselbos.
