Den 20. oktober 1981 fandt der et bombeangreb sted i Antwerpen. En bilbombe eksploderede foran en portugisisk-jødisk synagoge på Hoveniersstraat i Diamantkvarteret i centrum af Antwerpen. Tre mennesker blev dræbt, og 106 andre blev såret. Eksplosionen blæste døre og blyvinduer ud af synagogen og ødelagde butiksvinduer og -ruder i den vidtstrakte omkreds. Bomben var blevet skjult i en varevogn, der natten før var parkeret forkert med et manglende hjul, som om den havde haft problemer.
