I slutningen af det 18. århundrede blev der på Ferraris-kortet stadig tegnet seks søer i Vuilbeek-dalen. Fire af dem blev med tiden fyldt op af sedimentering og naturlig tilblivelse, men også ved bidraget fra fjernelsen af slam fra to andre søer, der blev vedligeholdt frivilligt til fiskeri. I kølvandet på Anden Verdenskrig blev moserne, der blev efterladt på stedet for disse gamle søer, tørlagt og beplantet med popler. I 1992, da dalen blev klassificeret som naturreservat, blev dens afløb blokeret og poplerne fjernet, så moseområderne og de fugtige enge kunne blive genoprettet. Disse er nu rige på et stort udvalg af flora og fauna.
