I den officielle rapport står der: Postbudet Van Brabant cyklede tilbage til Spa efter sin runde i Vert Buisson. Han var på vej mod Winamplanche, da han blev offer for en uvedkommende ulykke.
Hans kollega José Job fandt ham død ved vejkanten, men hans cykel, hans taske og hans kepi lå pænt ved vejkanten. Han alarmerede landsbyen. Den unge postbud døde, mens han blev kørt til hospitalet. Uden at kunne klarlægge noget, blev ulykkesårsagen ikke fastlagt med en tredje part.
