Sammen med Lourdes og Rom har Sugny det martiale domæne "Scala Sancta", en hellig trappe.
De Hellig Trapper identificeres traditionelt med trapperne fra Pontius Pilatus' palads, hvor det siges, at Kristus gik op.
Dens bygning i år 1925 fandt sted under pavelig autoritet, og de troende går op ad trappen på knæ som et tegn på bod.
Ifølge traditionen var den originale trappe en del af Pontius Pilatus' prætorium i Jerusalem. Så Jesus ville have gået på den under sin lidelse. Ifølge middelalderlige legender blev trappen ført fra Jerusalem til Rom af Sankt Helena, Konstantin den Stores mor, omkring år 326. Den findes i komplekset af det gamle Lateranpalads foran basilikaen Sankt Johannes i Lateran.
