Meggen nævnes første gang i 1226 som Meken, selvom en 14. århundredes kopi af et ældre dokument nævner det i Acta Murensia omkring 1160.
Meggen har et areal på 7,3 km². Af dette areal bruges 47,6% til landbrugsformål, mens 23,7% er skov dækket. Af resten af jorden er 28,5% beboet, og resten er uproduktiv. I 1997-landmålingen var 23,69% af det samlede landareal skov dækket. Af landbrugsjorden bruges 41,6% til landbrug eller græs, mens 6,06% bruges til frugthaven eller vinstokke. Af de beboede områder er 20,25% dækket af bygninger, 0,41% er industrielt, 0,69% klassificeres som specielle udviklinger, 1,79% er parker eller grønne områder, og 5,37% er transportinfrastruktur. Af de uproduktive områder er 0,14% andet uproduktivt land.
