Die diocese Chur strækker sig over de schweiziske kantoner Graubünden, Schwyz, Glarus, Zürich, Nidwalden, Obwalden og Uri.
En biskop af Chur nævnes første gang i 451/452, da biskop Saint Asimo deltog i synoden i Milano, men eksisterede sandsynligvis et århundrede før. Stolen var først suffragan til ærkebiskoppen af Milano, men efter traktaten i Verdun blev den suffragan til Mainz. Som følge af politiske forandringer blev den i 1803 umiddelbart underlagt den Hellige Stol.
