Kommunen ligger direkte ved Elben mellem floderne Krückau og Pinnau midt i Seestermüher Marsch, en af de fire Holsteiniske Elbmarscher. Også den ubeboede Elb-ø Pagensand tilhører kommunen. Nabo kommuner er Neuendeich og Seester, de nærmeste større byer er Elmshorn og Uetersen.
