Donauwörth er en stor købstad i den schwabiske kommune Donau-Ries og sæde for amtmanden. I sen middelalder og tidlig moderne tid var Schwäbischwerd en selvstændig rigsby i det Hellige Romerske Rige, hvilket afspejles i våbnet for den nuværende by Donauwörth.
Byen ligger i det nordlige Schwaben, ved mundingerne af Kessel og Wörnitz samt Zusam og Schmutter i den lokale Donau, som løber fra sydvest mod øst; omtrent 12 km øst for byen munder Lech, der kommer fra syd, ud i denne flod. Donauwörth ligger ved de sydvestlige skråninger af Fränkischen Alb med naturparken Altmühltal og ved de østlige skråninger af Schwäbischen Alb. På den anden side af Donau ligger naturparken Augsburg-Westliche Wälder et par kilometer syd for byen.
