Slottet Braunfels ligger på en basaltknold vest for kurbyen Braunfels i den mellemtyske Lahn-Dill-kreds. Siden det 13. århundrede har det været residens for greverne af Solms og befinder sig stadig i det 21. århundrede i familiens eje hos greverne von Oppersdorff til Solms-Braunfels.
Slottet Braunfels dominerer landskabet langt ind til Lahndalen og kan ses som et landskabeligt og kulturhistorisk modstykke til Schloss Schaumburg i den nedre Lahndal. Udgift og ombygning i slutningen af det 19. århundrede tilhører en fase af den kreative historisme i neogotiske elementer, hvor man bevidst anvendte egne former. Som en af de mest betydningsfulde slotte af historismen har Braunfels en høj overregional betydning.
