Bydelen Resser Mark i den østlige del af Gelsenkirchen er opkaldt efter hede- og skovlandskabet Resser Mark, som grænser op til de gamle landsbyer Buers mod sydøst. Mod øst fortsætter det ind i Hertener Mark. Kernen i den nuværende bydel er en bebyggelse, der opstod i Emscherbruch øst for Erle og syd for landsbyen Resse i slutningen af 1930'erne.
