Bydelen Nordviertel i byen Essen danner sammen med Westviertel, Südviertel, Ostviertel, Südostviertel og bymidten byens centrum.
Nordviertel dækker omtrent området af det tidligere mineområde fra Zeche Victoria Mathias samt det tidligere arbejderkvarter Segeroth i Essen, som i dag ikke længere er et selvstændigt bydel. Lige her ligger i dag Campus Essen ved Universitetet Duisburg-Essen med cirka 20.000 studerende. Andre skoler inkluderer Tiegelschule grundskolen og Nordviertel grundskolen, Beisingstraße hovedskolen, Bernetalschule specialskolen samt specialskolen fra landskabsforbundet Rheinland.
