Köln Hovedbanegård er den vigtigste jernbaneknudepunkt i Köln og ligger i byens centrum ved siden af Kölner Dom. Med i alt 318.000 rejsende og besøgende dagligt samt omkring 1200 ankomster og afgange, er det en af de mest besøgte fjerntogstationer i Deutsche Bahn. Den gennemkørende station med sine elleve spor tilhører – sammen med stationen Köln Messe/Deutz på den anden side af Rhinen – de 21 stationer i den højeste prisklasse 1 fra DB Station&Service. Fra sin sydøstlige udgang fører jernbanetraceen i en snæver kurve over Hohenzollernbroen over Rhinen til Deutz på den højre side af Rhinen.
