Marburg station ligger ved strækning kilometer 104,3 af Main-Weser-Bahn i den nordøstlige del af Marburg og besøges dagligt af omkring 12.000 mennesker.
Officielt bærer stationen betegnelsen Marburg. Analog til betegnelsen Marburg Südbahnhof for stoppestedet Marburg Süd anvendes dog den lokale betegnelse Marburg Hauptbahnhof oftere. Fra sin åbning i 1850 indtil åbningen af Südbahnhof i 1897 bar stationen betegnelsen Marburg/Lahn. Derefter blev stationen frem til nedlæggelsen af Marburger Kreisbahn og den deraf følgende nedbygning af Südbahnhof til stoppested i 2005 kaldt Hauptbahnhof. Derfor er dette navn bevaret. Bussestationen ved Marburg station bærer også navnet Hauptbahnhof.
