Den udgives af Brune-Mettcker Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH i Wilhelmshaven i Berliner format. Avisen er den eneste dagblad i Wilhelmshaven. Dens distributionsområde er byen Wilhelmshaven og den nærliggende Landkreis Friesland. Det solgte oplag er 13.671 eksemplarer, et fald på 51,6 procent siden 1998. Wilhelmshavener Zeitung danner sammen med naboblade Jeversches Wochenblatt og Anzeiger für Harlingerland avisgruppen Wilhelmshaven. De overregionale sektioner leveres af Nordwest-Zeitung, der udkommer i Oldenburg.
