Gaden hed i middelalderen Enge Gasse. Gaden løber parallelt med Große Straße og Planeberg. Nikolaikirchstraße begynder i vest ved markedet og strækker sig mod øst til gaden Planeberg. Fra Planeberg går gaderne Große Kirchstraße og Kleine Kirchstraße, og til Große Straße fører gaden Rothe Meer.
