Oranienburg ligger i syd for Oberhavel kommune i forbindelsesområdet til Berlin og tilhører det naturlige område Zehdenick-Spandauer Havelniederung. Byens centrum i Berlin er cirka 35 kilometer væk. Oranienburg ligger ved Havel og
Oder-Havel-kanalen.
