Cottbus Hauptbahnhof er den største personbane i Land Brandenburg. Den ligger syd for Cottbuser bymidte og bliver dagligt benyttet af omkring 12.000 rejsende.
Cottbus station blev åbnet den 13. september 1866 med åbningen af jernbanestrækningen fra Berlin. I 1867 blev den forlænget til Görlitz. I 1870 blev stationsbygningen indviet; på grund af sin placering mellem sporene blev det til en ø-station. I de følgende år blev der bygget flere jernbanestrækninger i regionen. For Großenhain–Cottbuser jernbane blev Großenhainer station bygget i 1873, nord for Berlin station. Denne station blev lukket igen i 1880, og togene blev betjent fra Berlin station. Stationsbygningen fra Großenhainer station eksisterer stadig og bruges af jernbaneadministrationen.
