Elstal er med 4455 indbyggere den største bydel i den havellandske kommune Wustermark, nord for Potsdam og vest for Berlin.
I begyndelsen af det 20. århundrede blev godsbane Wustermark anlagt i åbne marker. I 1909 blev stationen taget i brug. Den blev til en af de største rangeringstationer i Tyskland. Bygningen af boliger til jernbaneansatte blev forsinket på grund af udbruddet af Første Verdenskrig. Den 1. november 1918 blev godskommunen Elstal dannet ud fra dele af matriklerne Dyrotz, Hoppenrade, Buchow-Karpzow og Ferbitz, med et areal på ca. 184 hektar, hvorefter jernbaneområdet Elstal opstod i de følgende år. I 1920 kunne de første boliger tages i brug. I samme år blev der bygget en skole i området. Også jernbanedriften Wustermark ved rangeringstationen blev anlagt i samme periode. Jernbanedriften Wustermark havde to ringlokal, to drejeskiver, fire kulanlæg og et 56 meter højt vandtårn, der blev til vartegn for byen.
