Den Magdeburg VEB Skibbyggeri „Edgar André“ eksisterede fra 1922 til 1970 og blev derefter udskilt til VEB Kombinat Luft- og Koldt teknik Dresden.
De første planer for en reparationsværft til Elbstrom-byggeadministrationen i Magdeburg går tilbage til 1903. I 1912 begyndte udgravningen af havnebassenget ved værftet, og i 1922 startede statsværftet Rothensee fra det Preussiske Maskinkontor sin drift.
