Nikolaikirken er den ældste og største kirke i Leipzig samt ved siden af Thomaskirken den mest kendte kirke i byen. Den sakrale bygning opkaldt efter den hellige Nikolaus er hovedkirke for den evangelisk-lutherske St.-Nikolai-Kirke menighed i Leipzig. Ombygningen og indretningen af Nikolaikirken indikerer en betydningsfuld skabelse af klassicismen.
I efteråret 1989 var Nikolaikirken det centrale udgangspunkt for den fredelige revolution i DDR med den efterfølgende murens fald i Berlin den 9. november 1989 og genforeningen af Tyskland den 3. oktober 1990.
