Havelland kommune omfatter den største del af Havelland. I øst har den andel i naturområdet Zehdenick-Spandauer Havel-niederung.
Nabokommuner er i nord Ostprignitz-Ruppin kommune og i nordøst Oberhavel kommune. I øst afsluttes området af grænsen til den Berlinske bydel Spandau. I sydøst grænser kommunen til den kreisfrie delstatshovedstad Potsdam, i syd til Potsdam-Mittelmark kommune og den kreisfrie by Brandenburg an der Havel. Ved grænsen i vest ligger de sachsen-anhaltiske kommuner Stendal og Jerichower Land.
