Jernbanestrækningen Essen-Überruhr–Bochum-Langendreer er i dag kun delvist i brug til jernbanedrift i Ruhr-området.
Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft overtog i 1863 Prinz-Wilhelm-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft og forbinde dens jernbanestrækning Wuppertal-Vohwinkel–Essen-Überruhr via den nye Ruhrbro med sin egen strækning, som blev færdiggjort i 1862, på stationen Steele og udvidede strækningen videre til Dahlhausen.
