Heimbach har sin kilde sydvest for Schramberg-distriktet Waldmössingen i Rottweil-distriktet og løber derefter i en overvejende nordlig retning gennem kommunen Fluorn-Winzeln, forbi Alpirsbach-distriktet Römlinsdorf og Dornhan-distriktet Busenweiler. Derefter krydser den området af Lossburg kommunen. Efter distriktet Wälde ændrer den lille flod sin strømretning mod øst mod Glatt. Den flyder nu i en bue omkring distriktet Sterneck gennem en skovklædt dal, tilføjer en lille dæmning under Sterneck, som er noget skjult i skovene, og strømmer derefter ind i Glatt i Dornhan-distriktet Leinstetten.
