I embetet Zarrentin blev fire kommuner og byen Zarrentin ved Schaalsee samlet for at udføre deres forvaltning. Amtet ligger i det nordvestlige af Landkreis Ludwigslust-Parchim i Mecklenburg-Vorpommern og grænser op til Herzogtum Lauenburg i Schleswig-Holstein.
Amtet har ikke noget officielt godkendt symbol, hverken våbenskjold eller flag. Som tjenestetegn anvendes det lille landssegl med våbnet fra landsdelen Mecklenburg. Det viser et kiggende tyre hoved med afrevet halsbehåring og krone samt inskriptionen „AMT ZARRENTIN“.
