Middelfart er en by i det centrale Danmark med en befolkning på 16.277 pr. januar 2022. Byen er kommunesædet for Middelfart Kommune på øen Fyn. Navnet Middelfart, der først blev registreret som "Mæthælfar" i Valdemars Skatteliste i 1231, består af det gamle danske ord mæthal, som betyder 'midten' og far, som betyder 'vej'. Dette navn refererede oprindeligt til stroget Snævringen, som er den smaleste del af Lillebælt, og blev efterfølgende anvendt om bosættelsen også.
