I de senere faser af Reconquista var Sax i centrum for spændingerne mellem Castilien og Aragonien, da Jakob I af Aragonien erobrede det fra maurerne, selvom det skulle have været reserveret til Castilien under traktaterne i Tudilén og Cazorla.
