Bugarach blev i slutningen af 2012 stærkt i rampelyset. Og det skyldtes forudsigelsen om, at landsbyen under den meddelte verdens undergang den 21. december 2012 (slutningen på Maya-kalenderen) ville blive skånet. De "troende" mente, at buen Pic de Bugarach ville åbne sig den 21. december, og der ville komme UFO'er ud for at redde menneskeheden omkring landsbyen.
