Slaget ved Soissons var den sidste store batalje i den frankiske borgerkrig, der brød ud mellem efterfølgerne til Pippin af Herstal.
Efter Pippins død i december 714 begyndte krigen om successionen mellem hans barnebarn og efterfølger Theudoald, hans enke Plectrudis, hans uægte søn Karl Martel, hans efterfølger som hofmester i Neustrien Raganfrid, og den nye konge Chilperik II. Raganfrid og Chilperik havde i starten meget succes, mens Plectrudis og Theudoald hurtigt forsvandt fra slagmarken. Karl Martel formåede imidlertid at vende krigen til sin fordel og tvang sine modstandere til at overgive sig.
