Den Kollegiale af Jomfru Maria blev grundlagt i 1131 i Licques af Robert dist le barbu, der var tilbage fra det første korstog, hvorefter den blev Klostret Notre-Dame de Licques af Præmonstraterordenen i 1132. Lambert d'Ardres nævner Robert dist el barbu med disse ord: « Robertus quidam de Liskis cum Barbâ vol Barbatus nomi natus quod tune temporis qui prolixam barbam non haberet effe minatus diceretur et in derisum et despectum haberetur ».
