Champs-Elysées er kendt for de sidste kilometer af Tour de France, hvor ryttere i en rasende fart massivt kører over brostenene. Men den mest spektakulære afslutning på Tour de France på denne gade var uden tvivl den i 1989. Kampen om det gule blev udkæmpet af Fignon og LeMond i en afsluttende tidskørsel. LeMond vandt kun med 8 sekunders forskel. Den mindste forskel nogensinde i Tour de France. Og det skyldtes især det nye tidskørselstyr, som nu er så klassisk.
