Først som domæne for biskopperne af Liège, derefter som territorium under Karl V's rige, blev Givet fransk under Louis XIV's styre. Som den sidste bastion mod fjendtlige områder har byen Givet altid stået centralt i militære erobringstrategier. Denne by var også fødestedet for illusterede skikkelser, som Etienne-Nicolas Méhul, som vi skylder det berømte "chant du départ". De arkitektoniske og historiske skatte suppleres også med adskillige nylige præstationer, som gør denne by til et charmerende sted at stoppe.
