Stationen åbnede den 5. december 1870 som endestation for Garstang og Knot-End Railway, da den åbnede den 7 miles 1 chain lange linje fra Garstang.
Stationen var beliggende på den sydlige kant af Stake Pool landsbyen øst for vejen, der løb mod syd, og blev nogle gange kaldt Stake Pool station af den lokale presse. Selvom den blev kaldt Pilling station, var den omkring 1.500 yards fra Pilling landsby tværs over landet, eller omkring 1,5 miles ad vej.
