Kommunen ligger langs den provinsielle vej 45, der fra den nærliggende kommune Brinzio, passerer gennem skovene ved foden af den nordlige skråning af Campo dei Fiori-bjerget og når til Orino.
Navnet Cabiaglio ville stamme fra kendetegnene ved byen, som i middelalderen på grund af sin beliggenhed blev anset for at være "dalens slot". Denne benævnelse på latin ville blive oversat som Castrum Vallis, som gradvist blev forenklet over tid, og blev til Ca' Vallis, derefter Ca' Biallis, så Cabialij, og endelig Cabiaglio. Ifølge andre kilder kan navnet stamme fra den latinske stemme cavealis fra cavea eller fra capulum.
