Basilikaen Santa Maria i Porto var en vigtig kirke i Ravenna, ikke langt fra Porta Nuova, på via Roma, den nord-sydgående hovedgade gennem det historiske bycentrum. Den huser den græske Madonna.
I første halvdel af det 15. århundrede besluttede de regelmæssige kanoner i Santa Maria i Porto at bygge et nyt kloster ved siden af deres kirke Santa Maria i Porto Fuori, men Republikken Venedig tvang dem til at bygge det inden for byens mure i stedet. De erhvervede en grund ved Porta Nuova, i den sydlige halvdel af den befæstede by, og rev husene på grunden ned den 5. august 1496.
