Bygningen er, som man stadig kan se på facaden, af romansk oprindelse, men blev indvendigt omfattende renoveret i 1656. Også kendt som Santa Maria in Borgo Bambini (måske fra en åbenbaring af Madonnaen med det "salige barn") og Santa Maria del Soccorso (fra et Maria-billede, der blev bragt fra den forsvundne kirke San Girolamo dei Gesuati), lå den på den nordlige side af Ceppo-hospitalet.
I 1784 blev den opløst som sogn af biskop Scipione de' Ricci, og den var sæde for bruderskabet Saint'Omobono, skytshelgen for skrædderne.
Ydermuren er kun synlig gennem portalen med et brudt halvmåneformet tympanon, mens indersiden stadig viser det beundrede fresco af jomfruen af arven.
