Det Nationale Monument består af en betonpylon på 22 meter høj, beklædt med travertin, med skulpturen "Freden" ovenpå. På forsiden er der placeret fire bøjet mandfigurer, der repræsenterer krigen. Til højre og venstre to mænd fra modstandskampen med hylende hunde, som symboliserer sorg og trofasthed. Figurerne repræsenterer henholdsvis: nød, modstand og sejr. Om pylon står en buet mindemur, hvori elleve urner med jord, der stammer fra henrettelses- og æreskydessteder fra dengang, samt en urne med jord fra æresklerne fra det tidligere Hollandske Indien er placeret.
