Navnet Zevenhuizen får ikke umiddelbart nogen til at tænke på en stor landsby, men i mellemtiden har landsbyen 2.725 indbyggere. Zevenhuizen er stadig ung. I århundreder var der ikke tale om en landsby, kun et øde højmoset område. Dette mos blev oprindeligt udgravet og drænet i forlængelse af markerne fra Vredewold af landmændene i lille skala.
